Why? 'Cause it’s meant to feel like that quick-hit con sketch... except I don’t do cons.

These are ruffys, folks. That means loose lines, scribble storms, energy bursts, and some juicy splats of color.

Everything’s on 9x12" smooth heavyweight bristol or sketch covers if you send me one or I’ve got one handy. You pick the style, I drop the lines.

9x12 RUFFY STYLE – WITH COLOR BG

Same as above but with some loud marker haze or scribbly background action to push the silhouette. It’s like turning the amp to 11 on a sketchbook page.

9x12 SCRIBBLY STYLE – NO BACKGROUND

This is the Sketchcraft signature. Marker + pencil + ballpoint + whatever else I need to make it slap. Fully colored, fully textured, fully me—but no background. This is for when the character is the whole show.

9x12 SCRIBBLY STYLE – WITH SAUCY BACKGROUND

Same mixed media layering as the no-background version, but now I bring in Distress Ink washes, watercolor texture, and full vibe control. Could be moody, could be vibrant, could be cosmic—it’s whatever supports the character. The “Saucy” here? That’s the background doing work.

Alright, here’s the deal—if you’re lookin’ to get a one-of-a-kind original drawn right on a real comic book sketch cover, you’re in the right place. I offer two styles on these bad boys:

Scribbly Style for full-color chaos.
Red/Blue/Yellow Pencil + Ink Style for that raw pencil punch.

Important Notes

Here’s the truth: watercolor doesn’t behave on sketch covers. These things use random stock across publishers—some smooth, some rough, some just straight-up cursed. So rather than gamble on a full “saucy” watercolor background that could go sideways, I go with something that actually works every time, Distress Ink pads.

They lay down buttery-smooth, punchy color that plays nice with the paper, every single time. On top of that, I toss in Posca splatters and some good ol’ fashioned mixed media chaos for that signature vibe. Think vibrant & dreamy.
